About the turn of the century, in the sparsely populated tip of south Ocean City known as Cedar Beach, a group of men and women gathered to worship God on the porch of a home at 51st and Central Avenue. The Ocean City Tabernacle Association learned of these meetings and provided land for the original Chapel, which was constructed in 1902. Union Chapel By The Sea was incorporated in September, 1930. In 1946, an existing building, to be known as “Chapel Hall”, was moved from 53rd and Central Avenue to its present location. The present Chapel was enlarged and its interior modernized in 1957. The most recent addition, “Friendship Hall”, dedicated in 1983, provides a place for Sunday School and for meetings the year round. In 1985, an ambitious building program was begun which saw our sanctuary completely winterized, and in 1996, fully air-conditioned. We now worship twelve months of the year.
The Mission Statement of Union Chapel By The Sea is to foster a community to worship God with simple excellence through an emphasis on the teaching of the authoritative Word of God, prayer, communion, fellowship, and discipleship.
Union Chapel By The Sea is a distinctly Christian fellowship that exists to bring glory to God by serving as His means of producing individuals who are continually led by the Holy Spirit, firmly rooted in Biblical truth, and constantly maturing in their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
Acts 2: 42-47
They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.
Acts 3: 31
After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.
Psalms 1 (v.2-3)
Delight in the Law of the Lord, and mediate on His law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by stream of water, which yields it’s fruit in the season and whose leaf does not wither – whatever they do prospers.
Colossians 2: 6-7
So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.
